Fair Season

In New York county fair season is just about over and this week starts the New York State fair. As the official photographer for the beef cattle shows (sounds fancy right?) I spend a whole lot of time there.

The fair is broken into three rotations and each rotation hosts three or more breeds of cattle depending on the amount of exhibitors. First rotation is Hereford, shorthorn, and Charolais. Second is angus, highland, and limousin. Last rotation is the Simmental, red angus, white park, and all other breeds or aob.

As a photographer I spend all my time in the ring and at the back drop. I have to say my favorite part is getting to meet the livestock judges and spend the day examining the cattle as they come through the ring as they would. It's a great learning experience watching them analyze each female or bull and then listening to them explain on the microphone why each is in it's place.

Stay tuned for more fun to come from state fair.

Purpose

I've read many tips on how to blog. All of them tell you that you need to blog with a purpose or a direction. If you are anything like me, life has about ten million directions.

I will try my best to have a purpose and a direction. Some days i'm just glad I can remember my own name and where I live. As for the title Crazy & Cattle, well that is exactly what my life is about. I am involved in all things show cattle (beef) and most days being crazy is the only way to survive.

I don't believe a formal introduction is in need. You'll get a pretty good idea by the rest to come.
